When ‘Fast along with Furious’ opened in April 09 with a weekend gross regarding just under $71 million dollars, a very important factor became clear: there’d be more ‘Fast as well as Furious’ movies in our collective future. The newest installment, entitled ‘Fast Five’ (seriously, is there a series with a a lot more confusing set of sequel game titles than this one? Clearly people behind the first film were not thinking of franchise potential whenever they saddled it with that title…), is set to open this The spring – moving the start of the summer container office season back yet another week. What’s more is that today they’re talking the next installation even though this one is still a couple of months away.
Producer Neal Moritz, who’s out doing promotional work for ‘The Environmentally friendly Hornet,’ took time to chat along with Collider about the evolution of the block racing franchise, what visitors can expect from the fifth payment and plans for the next video and a potential spin-off. If you’re a fan of the series, there are some fascinating tidbits in the following quotations after the jump.
This time out and about, Dom (Vin Diesel) and former Police officer Brian (Paul Walker) end up hunted down by a no-nonsense Federal Agent played by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Naturally, much action ensues – some of which we’ve seen in the trailers.
The most impressive moment within the clip has to be a avenue chase through Rio featuring a number of cars chasing a vehicle towing a huge bank vault. Moritz shared the more expensive details of the sequence, saying You understand the vault that will get pulled out of the – well this is a police station and it becomes pulled out cause the bad guys supply this stuff in there and the guys pull it out of there. That sequence of 14 minutes probably, of these pulling this vault from the city of Rio de Janiero being chased simply by 50 police cars through the entire city is one of the most incredible sequences I’ve ever seen about film. The action in that is much like nothing you’ve ever seen. Means that real.
The action isn’t limited to just car chases, though. When you have two modern action celebrities with the pedigrees of Diesel along with Johnson, fans expect these phones throwdown at some point in the film. They’ll not be disappointed according to Moritz. These people beat the sh*t out of the other person, we shot for probably four days of them practically beating the sh*t out of one another. The audience is gonna be just like wow.
He elaborated further, introducing It was something that we had to get pregnant, obviously, then we had to see how we’re actually gonna do the fight, then we had to bring the stunt guys directly into rehearse it, then we was required to bring Vin and Dwayne in to put into practice it and then we shot that and it goes up, down, by means of walls, through windows, it can be one hell of a combat. And it’s probably like a 5-minute fight. Sounds good – although film fight fanatics amongst us all are already wondering if it may live up to the infamous battle scene between Roddy Piper and Keith Jesse in John Carpenter’s ‘They Live,I a sequence regarded as one of the best movie fights of all time by simply cult film fanatics.
Since interesting as all of that is, the most interesting bombshell in the bit involves the future plans for that franchise. Universal and Moritz happen to be banking on the film being a hit, so plans are generally underway for a sixth installment in the series. Moritz and Diesel powered are currently hammering out the concepts. Vin and I have had numerous interactions about what that might be. And we’ve been starting to get serious about this right now. We just finished the movie like 4 or 5 weeks in the past and we just needed an escape, and now we’re gonna begin focusing on that. Johnson’s series, in the mean time, will have to wait until after a ‘Fast 6′ becomes rolling, but could move into advancement at some point later this year.
Seems like there’s definitely more quick driving, and crime battling hijinks featuring hot cars in filmgoers future. What’s more interesting, though – the prospect of another ‘Fast and Furious’ follow up or a new series featuring Johnson getting back to his action film roots after a compilation of puzzling career choices? Share your thoughts in the comment section and look for the ‘Fast Five’ trailer below.
