It came in no surprise during the early 2010 when 3-D fervor started to leak into the creative imaginations in which toe the line between motion picture and pornography. Gaspar Noe wanted to stretch out the erotic sex views he’s known for and make a film that reveals the joys regarding sex with the help of the third measurement. Not to be upstaged, Tinto Brass made a decision that he would be the one to provide sex to the third dimension. Obviously he didn’t see ‘The Stewardesses.’ And just in case that had not been enough X-rated, three-dimensional glory, August delivered word that Hong Kong was food preparation up 3-D zen porn, and that Hustler had been looking to make an ‘Avatar’ adult porn (with Japanese-style tentacle sex re-envisioned with ponytails?).
Yet forget all that. How about a 3-D orgy courtesy of ‘The Other Woman’ filmmaker and numerous Oscar nominee Paul Mazursky?
The Wall Block Journal’s Speakeasy talked with the director about his work and present plans, which included a brief discuss Mazursky’s first film, ‘Bob and Carol and Ted and Alice,’ which Hollywood wants to remake.
Situated after his co-starring gig inside ‘I Spy’ alongside Bill Cosby, and ahead of when the likes of ‘The Greatest American Hero’ along with ‘Everybody Loves Raymond,’ the overdue Robert Culp starred as a documentarian researching a brand new project. He and his partner Carol (Natalie Wood) attend an attractive group therapy session, which thrusts them into a ’60s state of mind exactly where everyone should feel rather than consider. While trying to get their best close friends (Elliot Gould as Ted and Dyan Cannon as Alice) on the same wavelength, hidden article topics emerge, boundaries are sent and only one remains … studying the above photo, you can do you know what it is.
Fast-forward some forty-plus years, and even though discussing the current state of Hollywood, Mazursky said:
The whole business has changed into I would point out more garbage; some of it produces a lot of money and some doesn’t. However they still make a lot of great movies, too. They want to rebuilding ‘Bob and Carol,’ and that i said, if you give me big money upfront and you do the actual orgy in 3-D, I’d be interested. The idea happened twice by the studios. Several years ago, they were talking about Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston, and another couple, nonetheless they broke up, so who knows which now?
Yes, it was explained in jest, likely to mimic the particular absurdity, or potential craptacularness of a remake starring Brad and Jen. We shudder to imagine how that will would’ve played out … likely nothing like the four-Oscar-nominated success in the original. Nevertheless, it would’ve been great to see precisely what could have happened if the companies called Mazursky’s bluff. Would he or she have taken it on making Tinto Brass grumble over just one more person honing in on his 3-D goals? Or perhaps he simply could have made a fun and carefully lower 3-D movie that tries to expand James Cameron’s vision to straight-forward funny?
3-D jest aside, Movieline brings up a good point in which in this world where remakes and reboots take place left, right and center, it would be great to see a filmmaker review his own work. Rather than a shot-by-shot remodel of ‘Psycho,’ or a sequel decades after the fact, Hollywood ought to entertain the idea of directors revisiting successful films from their previous. How would it change today in Mazursky’s eyes, and how wouldn’t it fare in the quite dumbed along landscape of mainstream comedy?
And that’s it, really. You realize Hollywood has to cure their mainstream nervousness when anti-3-D and anti-remake opinions fizzle at the thought of Paul Mazursky directing 3-D orgies … just to get some cleverer comedic fare back into the spot light.
